Mattia Furlani
Mattia Furlani is considered one of the best young talents in Italian athletics today, excelling in both long jump and high jump during his sporting career.
Born in Marino (Rome) on 7 February 2005, Mattia grew up in Grottaferrata then moved to Rieti with his family in 2010, where he played basketball and discovered the athletics field, accompanied by the technical guidance of his mother Khaty Seck, a sprinter of Senegalese descent, and the advice of his father Marcello, a high jumper with a personal best of 2.27 meters set back in 1985.
In 2022, he became the Italian U18 high jump and long jump champion, both indoors and outdoors, and at the European Championship in Jerusalem he amazed everyone by winning the gold medal in long jump and high jump, setting the Italian category record in outdoor long jump with an impressive 8.04m.
He decided to focus on long jump and in 2023, he set a new best European U20 indoor performance in Stockholm thanks to a leap of 7.99m, which he then improved in Hengelo, in the Netherlands, with a new personal best of 8.24m.
