The Sound Of Art

A unique artistic project will come to life on 22-28 May, 2023 at the MUDEC Museum in Milan, inside the “Dalí, Magritte, Man Ray and Surrealism. Highlights from Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen” (MUDEC, 22 March - 30 July 2023) exhibition, reinventing the city’s concept of cultural and musical fruition.

The project is born from a collaboration between LaFil – Filarmonica di Milano and 24 ORE Cultura, organised with the support of Unipol Group, partner of the initiative.

MUDEC will become an all-round cultural hub, providing the musicians of LaFil with boundless inspiration through the fascination of the surrealist works exhibited in its halls, in a continuous dialogue of cross-references between surrealist art and classical music.

Short chamber music performances will be held in the exhibition halls near the ‘inspiring’ works, performed by various chamber groups – from wind ensembles to string quartets – each dedicated to one of the masterpieces on display, the author, the year of composition, or the poetics of the surrealist artist’s work. The musical interludes performed by the orchestra’s soloists and chamber groups will explore the years of Surrealism through different authors, playing music by composers with poetic affinity to the movement or who actively participated in Surrealism and Dadaism.
