For the first time in Italy, a solo exhibition will retrace the rich and successful artistic production of the great Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida. Sorolla was one of the main exponents of modern Iberian painting at the turn of the twentieth century, making a decisive contribution to its revival and opening to the climate of the Belle Époque.

Among the most loved and appreciated artists of his time for both his exceptional technique and his humble and benevolent personality, Joaquín Sorolla earned himself a reputation that quickly travelled beyond national borders, participating in and winning prestigious prizes at major international events. His incredible success story often crossed paths with Italy, starting from his first Roman holiday won through a scholarship in 1885. Sorolla then spent a long time visiting Italy, briefly settling in the splendid town of Assisi, and was pleased to return to the country often, assiduously participating in the Venice Biennials since the very first edition in 1895, and in the famous International Exhibition of Rome in 1911.

This solo exhibition is an excellent chance to rekindle the connection between the master of light and Italy, a country he has always been linked to, and an opportunity to share his extraordinary art with a larger audience through some of the most significant masterpieces of his vast painting collection.

The Unipol Group is Main Sponsor of the exhibition to be held at Palazzo Reale in Milan from 25 February to 26 June 2022.
